The Larger Task

Almost every young man looks forward to the day when he will have placed upon him a larger opportunity wid responsibility. That attitude is both normal and commendable. The know-how to possess that desired experience is the one problem.

"I wish I knew how to secure a better position than the one I have," declared an ambitious young man. There is an answer to that "wish" and it is this: Prove your ability to manage the desired position and when the opportunity comes for you to be advanced, you will be ready.

The larger task is just ahead of every man. Some will advance while others will remain at a standstill. However, all motion does not mean progress. A small boy will enjoy his rocking horse for hours; he will have an abundance of motion, but will make no progress. Just so with some people if they are busy as can be with a lot of little things that get them nowhere. Not mere motion, but progress-going ahead with something-is the requirement in the attainment of the larger task.
